To enhance the technical capabilities and proficiency of soil monitoring personnel, gain a comprehensive understanding of the national soil environmental monitoring tasks and requirements, key points of soil monitoring technology, business systems, and terminal usage, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive development of future soil environmental monitoring work. The "2020 Sichuan Province Soil Environmental Monitoring Technology Training Class," hosted by EWG1990 Instrument Learning Network, was successfully held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on August 7, 2020.

Let's take a look at the on-site atmosphere through some photos:

Report 1: Soil Environmental Monitoring Technology

Ms. Wang Yingying, Director of Sichuan Provincial Ecological Environment Monitoring General Station, in her report "Soil Environmental Monitoring Technology," mainly lectured on 6 excellent aspects: an overview of soil environmental monitoring technology, soil monitoring background, norms and standards, soil monitoring technology, as well as soil sample collection and preservation techniques, and soil analysis and testing techniques.

Report 2: Integration, Innovation, Efficiency Improvement and Capacity Enhancement - How to Improve the Efficiency of Organic Matter Analysis in "Detailed Soil Surveys"

Mr. Zeng Hailong, Senior Application Engineer at Thermo Fisher, in his report "Integration, Innovation, Efficiency Improvement and Capacity Enhancement - How to Improve the Efficiency of Organic Matter Analysis in 'Detailed Soil Surveys'?", specifically introduced how to improve efficiency in aspects such as sample extraction and rapid solvent evaporation, and analyzed Thermo Fisher's advantages in the efficiency of organic matter analysis in "Detailed Soil Surveys."

Report 3: Discussion on Training Models for Environmental Laboratory Technicians

Chen Wenhui, Environmental Project Director, EWG Instrument Learning Network

Report 4: Analysis of Key Points in Soil Monitoring Quality Control

Mr. Xie Zhenwei, General Manager and Senior Engineer of Sichuan Chuanhuan Yuanchuang Testing Technology Co., Ltd., in his report "Analysis of Key Points in Soil Monitoring Quality Control," mainly introduced the national network soil environmental quality monitoring management system, and elaborated on two parts: key points of soil monitoring quality control and key points of internal laboratory supervision and inspection.

Report 5: Analysis and Testing Technology for Metal Elements in Soil Samples

Wang Junwei, Director of Sichuan Provincial Ecological Environment Monitoring General Station

Report 6: Interpretation and Application of Soil Organic Matter Pretreatment and Analysis Technology

Ms. Huang Yun, Director of Sichuan Provincial Ecological Environment Monitoring General Station, in her report "Interpretation and Application of Soil Organic Matter Pretreatment and Analysis Technology," introduced the analysis methods for volatile organic compounds and semi-volatile organic compounds, the analysis of main compounds involved in routine and detailed soil surveys, common problem handling and maintenance of analytical instruments. Notably, she also focused on difficult issues encountered in work, such as the discussion on organochlorine pesticide degradation and DFTPP tuning.

How to perform injection operation for purge and trap?

Purge and trap technology, as a sample pretreatment method, has been highly regarded by the environmental science and analytical chemistry communities since the 1970s, when scientists first published papers on purge and trap chromatography for determining volatile organic compounds in water, due to its advantages such as small sample size, high enrichment efficiency, minimal matrix interference, and ease of online detection.

What is the basis for purge and trap not having cross-contamination?

Purge & Trap is a technology used to analyze trace-level (10-9 concentration, ppb) volatile organic compounds (VOCs, such as benzene series), developed in 1974 by Tom Bellar, a chemical expert at the Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati, USA, which increased analytical sensitivity by 100 times compared to existing methods at the time.
